FAQs for ODPs
Can ODPs perform aesthetic treatments?
Yes, HCPC-registered ODPs can legally perform aesthetic treatments. Dermal fillers can be administered independently. For botulinum toxin (Botox), you'll need to work with a prescriber as ODPs do not have prescribing rights.
How does my theatre experience help?
Enormously. Your understanding of pharmacology, sterile technique, patient monitoring, and emergency protocols provides an excellent foundation for safe aesthetic practice.
What about prescribing for Botox treatments?
You'll partner with a prescriber (doctor or dentist) who provides prescriptions for your patients. This is a common arrangement and many successful ODP aestheticians work this way.
Is aesthetics a good career change from theatre work?
Many ODPs find aesthetics offers better work-life balance — no night shifts, no weekends, and the ability to build your own practice around your schedule.
